We have listed some of the Charities that have expressed interest in people supporting them this year by taking part in the Newtown Santa Run 2008. All application and sponsor forms can be downloaded from this website.
Guide Dogs For the Blind We have been providing blind and partially-sighted people with the freedom and independence that a guide dog gives for 75 years. We are a world leader in breeding and training guide dogs. We employ around 900 professional staff in the UK. The charity is supported by about 10,000 volunteers, including puppy walkers, brood-stock holders, dog boarders and thousands of local fundraisers. We fund major research projects looking into the prevention and cure of eye disease, and work to raise awareness of the importance of eye care. Guide Dogs campaigns for the rights of visually-impaired people, particularly on mobility and access issues. Safer Streets and Access for All are two current campaigns.
Thousands of blind and partially-sighted people do not receive the rehabilitation services they desperately need. Our ‘Re-think Rehab’ campaign is alerting politicians to this fact, and pressing for major new investment. Guide Dogs requires over £50 million a year to continue its work. We receive no government funding and our services are entirely dependent on voluntary donations. Guide Dogs For The Blind

The NSPCC recently launched a major new appeal for funds to develop its vital helpline services in Wales and across the rest of the UK. The ‘Child’s Voice’ Appeal aims to raise £50 million UK-wide over the next three years in order to run and grow vital listening services such as those provided at the ChildLine bases in Swansea and Prestatyn and the NSPCC Cymru/Wales helpline in Bangor.
